Summer: It's Tomato Time!

Summer: It's Tomato Time!

Considered the symbol of summer, the tomato is a fruit (...yes, it's a fruit and not a vegetable) rich in water and low in calories. Packed with vitamins and minerals, it is omnipresent on our tables during these months.

Just 18 kcal per 100 g. So, at least for once, there's no need to hold back on quantities, except in cases of allergies (also, watch out for nickel allergies!!).

Perfect in low-calorie diets and, given its good fiber content (hemicellulose and cellulose), it can promote proper intestinal function.

The best way to consume it is raw and fresh in salads or in the form of simple, lightly cooked sauces to preserve all its valuable nutritional characteristics.

The tomato, or rather I would say the organic tomato, can be considered a "natural medicine" useful for the prevention of various pathologies. Extremely rich in vitamin C (25 mg in 100 g of ripe tomato) and lycopene, antioxidant bioactive substances, useful in the prevention of cardiovascular, inflammatory, and degenerative diseases.

Furthermore, some essential nutrients contained in tomatoes, including lycopene, give them preventive properties against tumorous processes (especially in the colon and prostate).
